• 3.4%: The annual August consumer price index inflation rate, with gasoline prices 27.4% higher than a year ago.

At some point this weekend, an otherwise rational adult will spend 20 minutes debating whether to start a third-string running back because of a favorable matchup against Cleveland (sorry). Fantasy football is back. What started as a niche hobby has become one of the biggest attention magnets in sports. Millions of people now spend their Sundays not just watching football, but obsessively refreshing apps, tracking injury reports, and celebrating touchdowns scored by players on teams they don’t even root for.

And that’s the magic. Fantasy football turns every game into your game. A boring Cardinals-Titans (sorry, again) matchup suddenly becomes must-see TV when your season depends on a tight end catching three more passes.

The result? Fans watch more football, follow more teams, and stay plugged in far longer than they otherwise would. The industry has noticed. Fantasy platforms now come loaded with AI-powered draft tools, lineup recommendations, and new league formats designed to keep managers engaged all season, even after their championship dreams have been crushed by Week 4.

Fantasy football didn’t just make sports more interactive. It turned millions of fans into year-round participants in a game that’s often just as entertaining as the one on the field.

Elena Rybakina captured her first U.S. Open crown! And in other news ... nearly 800,000 Honey Deuces were sold, one match stretched until 3:33 a.m., and Wimbledon apparently looked at the chaos and said: no influencers in our house.

Think your job is sweet? Snoop Dogg may have found the ultimate side hustle. His Dr. Bombay ice cream brand is hiring an International Ice Cream Taster, paying $10,000 per month for three months. The lucky hire will travel the world sampling frozen treats, spotting trends, and helping create future flavors. Unfortunately, applicants who describe themselves as “slightly lactose intolerant” may not make it past HR.

For young workers without a college degree, the job market is the strongest it has been in years. New research shows unemployment among 22- to 34-year-olds without degrees is near historic lows, driven by strong demand for skilled trades workers. Turns out knowing how to fix something may be more valuable than knowing how to explain why a PowerPoint will improve ROI.

Corporate Lunch

Apple debuted the foldable iPhone Duo, which, among other new features, lets users run two apps side by side. Finally, a phone designed for watching TikTok while pretending to answer emails.

Rivian is going mainstream with the R2, a smaller and more affordable SUV designed for suburban life. It even has space specifically designed for oversized water bottles. Rivian clearly knows its target demographic.

Barilla is acquiring mac and cheese disruptor Goodles, known for putting a healthier, protein-packed spin on the comfort food classic and already capturing 7.8% of U.S. category spending. Adding it to the grocery list in the name of market research.

UBS is requiring prospective junior bankers to demonstrate AI proficiency alongside the usual academic credentials. The technical interview may soon be less “Walk me through a DCF” and more “Walk me through your prompt.”

Novo Nordisk is going mononymous, dropping “Nordisk” to publicly go by just “Novo” while keeping its legal name intact. Even the name is on Ozempic now. Madonna, Cher, Beyoncé – and now the company behind Ozempic.
